Equus

So, Seve got me that swimsuit for my birthday.

!!!

Can't wait to wear it when the weather gets above 70 degrees.

(Also, have you ever seen/read Equus? Crazy.)

Cool Cat

Have any of you heard of Alex Boyé? Or seen this Coldplay cover circulating Facebook? Well, Seve and I went to his concert this weekend thanks to a family/theatre connection that got us some free tickets. To be honest, I didn't research him before going - I was under the impression we were in for a jazz night or something. It wasn't jazz, but man oh man did we have an amazing time! Like, a black-hipster-MoTab-member-Ray-Charles-impersonating-jokester good time.

For one of his numbers he asked members of the audience for a hat, noting he was looking for something a little more interesting than a baseball cap. We just so happened to don Simon out in his new hat that night . . .

This hat, in fact:

And Mr. Boyé savored in its ridiculousness, saying, "Are you kidding? I look like Urkel!" And, you know, used it anyway:

Later that night, Simon got to meet Alex (and get his hat back):

Look at dem cool cats.

Picky

During singlehood, one of the first questions I'd ask a new roommate was "So what kind of music do you like?" to which I almost always received the reply, "Oh, I like everything." Which was usually true, and that's fine, and the mark of a open mind, but little did they know about the picky bi#ch they'd just moved in with. I'm so picky I don't even prescribe to a specific genre of music, but rather ten or so artists who I listen to all the time. Actually, not "ten or so," but specifically The Ten. Because, you know, the picky pound-sign-female-dog thing. And on that rare occasion when I find a new artist, The Ten does not become The Eleven. The new artist replaces an old one and I don't even bother to sugarcoat the blow as I remove them from my rotation.

It's not that I only allow ten artists to exist in my life, it's just that old tastes naturally fall away as I get older and wiser and realize the Smashing Pumpkins were only great when I was in high school. I look back on them fondly and might play a tune here or there the same way I'll glance at the photo of an ex-boyfriend. But just as with an old flame, I'm not about to call them up again and rekindle the relationship.

I'm not going to list The Ten, but rather inform you that a ten-or-less mindset dominates all my tastes. Fashion, film, literature, etc. This particular post will center on footwear, which I can never get my pickiness to raise any higher than The Six. So, meet pair #6, the beauties that managed to snag my interest, penetrate my pocketbook, and, of course, replace a previous contender this week. So long, black wedges! Hello, navy & white striped espadrilles!

And Happy Friday the 13th! Let's watch The Shining and play some Smashing Pumpkins.

Black jeans, Green leather

I'm not quite sure what to say right now, except that I had a bad day, but here are pictures of me from a good day. I've realized a lot of my portraits involve me wearing my favorite black jeans and green leather jacket. Perhaps I need to shake things up a bit.

Pony Party for Party People

How are we feeling about this swimsuit? Because I kind of love it. Ignore the pocket in the back. Or don’t, because that model has a stellar rear. One reviewer said she loves the suit but it’s “not great if you are trying to pick up guys.” Perhaps we don’t have the same taste in men.

Equally awesome suits: Skeleton! Cat! Stars!

Goat Guys

Francesca Lia Block's Witch Baby was my favorite installment of the Dangerous Angels series. That purple-eyed, snarly black-haired child crawled right into my heart in middle school and hasn't ever bothered leaving.  These shoes are my homage to her band, the Goat Guys. You see, just like in Pinocchio when all the boys started to turn into asses once they started boozin' n smokin' n' poolin', the Goat Guys started to turn into goats once their band took off and their egos started to soar - a transformation that began with some goatly band gear: furry pants, antlers, and hooved shoes. Once these items were removed, they were able to see what they had become and change their ways.

Not that my goal is to turn into a goat. And these shoes aren't terribly hoof-like; just enough so that I love wearing them everyday. Though, Seve thinks they're ugly. I try to explain to him that that's kind of the point. Also, they put me at or near eye level with my friends, which is always a plus.

Hats off

Oh hai friends! Here's a little tip to keeping slidey hats from falling off while you're out and about - put on an elastic headband underneath. And violà! Now when you bend over to pick up your little Simon, your hat won't fall on him. Not that he ever seems to mind.

Also: please ignore the ugly site reference in the corner of my GIF. I have a baby, which means little time to actually utilize a tutorial on creating my own GIF but plenty of time to plug pictures into a site that'll just generate one for me. And apparently plenty of time for taking the artsy photos of myself to be used in the GIF. Hypocrite, I know, I know.

Year of the Bear

8 3/4 month baby bump.

Ugh man I tell you what I can't wait for baby to get here. This last weekend was really hard; my first trimester sickness returned and I feel like my energy is officially at 0%. But with one more week to go and my doctor convinced I'll be greeting baby sooner rather than later (though his wife, the receptionist, laughed that off, "He told that to me, too. A vigorous game of tennis couldn't get our baby to arrive,") I'm hoping my next post will consist of a birth story where little Seve Jr. can finally show you all his new bear hat. He loves bears.

Also, Rachel Berry and I both own this sweater.
Just so you know.

Nice try, Urby, nice try.

Hey There, Four Eyes!

I recently received some glasses from Warby Parker. If you have terrible vision (I'm at -4.something in each eye) and a flair for obnoxiously thick glasses, this site lets you choose five pairs to be shipped to you at no cost to try on at home before you buy. They're also hip like TOMS in that when you buy a pair, another gets shipped to a less-monetarily-fortunate and vision-impaired individual in need. After receiving my five, I've narrowed it down to these two:
The Fillmore
Pros: fits my face very well (as in nice and snug), ridiculously hip right now
Cons: might be too much of a novelty, more quirky than attractive on me
The Colton
Pros: Fashionably classic, attractive on me
Cons: not as snug as I'd like--they slide forward when I look down, but this can be fixed

And here are some crappy photos courtesy of my camera phone:
Thoughts? I've got some: I seriously need a bang trim.

And my name would be Bumble Boo

If I was a cartoon character, this would be the outfit I'd wear everyday:
Ever see that Doug episode where they gave you a peek into his closet? And it was just an endless sea of green vests and white tops? Imagine row after row of red Hawaiian shorts and string bow ties. Perfection.

What would your outfit be?

Do these boots make me look fat?

I've had some really crappy online shopping experiences lately.

Ever since Russia, I've been looking for a pair of rich, luxurious, over-the-knee suede boots that wouldn't remind me of a pirate or stripper. And were in my budget. So, I bought some boots recently. They never showed up. In fact, 2 days after ordering them I received an email saying I'd been refunded, with no explanation as to why.

The site was the sketchy AMIClubwear, an "in da club" store that's pretty ridiculous, so it's not like I can allow myself to be shocked at the matter in which they handled the transaction. I'm still bummed, though. These boots were only $16, an amount I didn't mind taking a risk on for boots that would either look super cheap or just fine. I was banking on just fine. Guess I'll never know.
I put a frame around that so it wouldn't just be a boring picture of dancing legs in boots.

Poo. I really wanted some $16 boots. Screw you, AMIClubwear, screw you.

For my face

Oh, how I want these. They'll probably be very expensive, poo. More at Janz & Cooper.

Sh*t my coworker says

So so busy. Work + NaNo have me writing writing writing. I shouldn't even be taking this blog break. I love this Barnaby Ward sketch as it's a good reflection of my mind right now. Just busy and cluttered. But I'm getting everything done! That's what counts. Seve's incredibly busy too. Read: TWO PLAYS AT THE SAME TIME. Plus school. Crazy.

Oh, and we're officially going to Florida for Christmas! Didn't think it would be possible, but my Mum and Bum-in-law have very generously secured the trip for us. Trying to think of how on earth I can ever repay them for their kindness.

Also, I was daydreaming about how funny it'd be to have a "fashion blog" dedicated to people in pajamas and sweatpants, but in really sexy poses and pretty photo shoot settings. They'd act like it's real fashion, and list where they got each item. Winnie the Pooh onesie - $15 - Walmart.

And OH YES Halloween was fantastic! Though Seve's "Proud to be an American" t-shirt drew a fine line between Garth and Joe Dirt. Luckily, Trent scrawled "Aerosmith" over it.

k TIME TO WRITE MORE bai.

Frump it up

Frumpy is the new sexy, and I'm all for it.

I thoroughly enjoy the Fall and its wardrobe. Cold enough for a sweater, but warm enough to still bare some skin. Too bad I live in Rexburg and this season is mere days away from being over.  I hate ice and snow.

OMG what's this? Is it the Shins? Click:

How nice. Takes ya back, doesn't it?

These dresses from Rainbow Winters have water-reactive ink that disappears to reveal color underneath, and sun-reactive ink that changes hue depending on your environment.
