Correct Good Ghost Feed

Since separating good ghost & julesisaacs.com into my blog and design portfolio respectively, I'm worried people following good ghost are instead receiving feed updates from julesisaacs.com . . . meaning you're getting all the "posts" from my design gallery. To get the correct feed for good ghost, just copy and paste this feed into your reader of choice (I use Feedly):

http://goodghost.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default?alt=rss

Just pop it in wherever your "add content" button is.

Thanks!
Jules

Separated

Changes! Changes! Changes 'round here! I officially separated "julesisaacs.com" from good ghost, so now one is a "professional design website" and the other is my personal blog, as it's always been, but now I don't feel so bad about bloating it with photos of my kids. And now I'm able to rant about stuff without the fear of a client raising their eyebrows. Not sure why I didn't just keep the two separate in the first place. Probably because I'm not really a pro-freelancer so much as I'm a "yeah, uh, I can design that, um, here's my web site? Oh, you just want me to maintain your Facebook? Yeah, uh, that's not really what I do . . . but banner ads, yeah, I do that . . ." kind of freelancer.

Maybe this means I'll post more often? Maybe? We'll see. I should be a more courteous blogger and leave comments on YOUR posts rather than fret over mine . . . I promise I'm reading, I've just become a lurker rather than a commenter these days.

If any of you followed good ghost or julesisaacs.com through Feedly, go ahead and unsubscribe from julesisaacs.com, because that post feed is now used as my gallery. All blog posts will now spew forth from this part of the internet. Hurrah.

Lame reference to David Bowie's Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes

I feel like I've been meaning to add this PS to the bottom of every blog post I've written recently, but maybe it would be better to just give it its own post.

HEY! So I went on a blog hiatus for a long time and some of you did, too! Did you move your blog elsewhere or move on to greener pastures of social media? Did we lose track of each other during the demise of Google Reader? (I now use Feedly, btw) If we used to comment on each other's posts all the time and you're hanging out somewhere else now, let me know. I'd love to catch up.

As for me, if you haven't noticed yet, this blog is now simply "julesisaacs.com" instead of "goodghost.blogspot.com." For reasons, because professionalism.

Don't make no deals with the devil

Some shots from Seve's production of Tales of Terror from the Tragic Valley. The annual show contains several vignettes all centered on a theme, this year's being The Twilight Zone. These particular shots are from a scene about a man unsuccessfully trying to kill himself after receiving immortality from the devil. He had tried to throw himself off a building, and when his wife tried to stop him, threw her instead. Thus, you know, jail.

K let's play GUESS WHO.

Guess who went to the wrong address for her new visiting teach-ee? Guess who walked up the driveway to find a man passed out in the yard? Guess who called out "Sir? Sir?" and when she didn't receive a response went up the rest of the way to ring the doorbell in case the man was just the teach-ee's wayward son? Guess who encountered a very unhappy Saint Bernard on her way back to the car when no one answered the door? Guess who called her VT partner in a panic over the whole situation once safely to her car? Guess whose VT partner was confused at her worry because she was picturing this girl trembling in fear at the actual dog of their teach-ee, a Pomeranian? GUESS WHO

Guess who ended up hating his Thomas the Tank Engine costume even though it's his favorite show? Even though he picked it out at the store, even though he's foregoed all titles such as "Mama" and "Dada" and instead simply refers to everyone as "Thomas?" Guess who's mother will now be going as a train for Halloween because she lost the receipt and can't return the costume and doesn't want it to go to waste? GUESS WHO

Guess who ate nothing but pizza and caramel popcorn today because it's my life why not? Guess who now feels like they want to die and throw up all over the living room and kitchen and bathroom and did I mention die? GUESS WHOOOOO

Well, that was a fun game.

ps HAPPY HALLOWEEN

Twin Falls

When Seve first came to me with the those two words, Twin Falls, I didn't think much of it. We had tossed around two-word cities before; Virginia City, San Francisco, Las Vegas. I found the one word cities more exciting, like Memphis or Baltimore, because they were new, in the east or south where our palettes had never tasted before. But each word we uttered, whether single or in pairs, resulted in an empty interview and false hopes for the future. So we taught ourselves to stop hoping, and just wait. The right word would come. And we were perfectly happy and prepared to stick around in our current one word, Portland.

But two weeks ago those two words came rushing forward and swept us up in a whirlwind move that had us packed and taking off before I even realized what was happening. Now, here we suddenly are - a new apartment, all the boxes finally unpacked (or hiding in closets) and surrounded by that dry wind I only know in Idaho. Never did I think we'd end up back here, and we know it's only another pitstop in the roadtrip of teaching and grad school and more babies and all those dreams coming true we have for ourselves, but who knows? Maybe Idaho's swallowed us up after all.

Sorry I haven't posted in such a long time, or commented on your posts. Between my Aunt Valerie's funeral, a family trip to Texas, and the move to Twin Falls, my feet are only now just finding the ground, much less my fingers finding a keyboard.

In other news . . . how about that new Cat Power album? And that St. Vincent & David Byrne collaboration that came out two days ago? My ears couldn't be happier.

Beach Baby

I need to apologize for not blogging lately. And by "blogging," I don't mean posting, but commenting on the blog posts of my dear friends and loved ones. I'm reading, I swear! On the go I always love checking my Reader app on my phone, but unfortunately my phone is of the old & crappy variety that doesn't always allow me to leave comments (or so I've recently come to realize when I check back on a post and see my comments have never shown up). So: MY APOLOGIES. I love you all so, so much.

But I also apologize for not personally posting blog posts lately, mostly to my mothers who I know are dying to see some photos of Simon (especially his "monthly" posts . . . so behind). They're coming, I promise. It's just been such a fun summer, I'm not often on my computer anymore. I'm in the kiddie pool with Simon, at the beach, out hiking, biking, longboarding, and other summer activities that end in "-ing." When the fall comes, I'll likely be on here more (or maybe I won't, since Simon will be walking by then, and goodness that's just going to change everything).

So much for the afterglow

Remember when Tiana Godfrey took dreamy photos of Seve and myself? In particular, the jumping shot from this post? Well, Everclear wants to use that photo for the cover of their upcoming album (out in June, I think?) Tiana wrote me asking if this would be all right, to which I replied OF COURSE ARE YOU KIDDING YES.

As Tiana put it, "Your feet will be famous amongst the late 90's pop music fans out there." I'd like to add "post-grunge" in there for good measure, but either way, it sounds good to me.

When you're strange

People are Strange by Doors on Grooveshark
Strange things as of late:

-the woman who muttered "Quack!" under her breath as she angrily stormed out of Simon's doctor's office just before we were called in
-the "Best Breakfast Spot in Portland" 8 years in a row or something only accepting checks - though their pigs in a blanket were to die for, so I just asked "how much?" and signed away
-the snow! So much snow! It's March, Oregon, March! And Spring Break, for crying out loud!
-the conversations of truckers picked up by Simon's baby monitor (not to mention all the supposed aliens and ghosts we hear through that thing)
-the fact that I missed the opportunity to attend the midnight showing of Hunger Games . . . lame, Jules, lame
-the old woman I recognized at my library's "How to Download Library eBooks" mini-class and the lecture she gave me on how her granddaughter "threw her life down the drain after that trip to Russia"
-the weirdo emails I get in my old "ohnojules" Gmail account linked to my old blog . . . spammers asking if they can sponsor me (for a fee) or if I'll sponsor them (also for a fee)

. . . and that about caps it. Happy Weekend!

Be Mine

Hope you all had a wonderful Valentine's Day! My sweatheart kicked off our celebration by snuggling up close when we woke up Valentine's morning, only to quickly turn away and suggest I brush my teeth before we smooched. Embarrassed, I moped over to the bathroom sink - where I found a heart-shaped box of chocolates waiting in my toothpaste drawer. Dirty rascal.

Suffice it to say, we ate half the box for breakfast.

Halloweenie

Did you know that I considered naming my son Casper? If the cartoon ghost wasn't so tied to the name the same way none of us can ever name our daughters Madonna again, it would have been a serious option.

Happy Halloween!

The Motorola Charm is a terrible blogging device

Hey hooligans! I have a strong desire to blog/tweet/FB but my new apartment has a strong desire to have its internet up and running by Sep 1st, so until then I get to use my phone and a 3G connection so spotty it could have starred in 101 Dalmations. So sorry if you haven't heard from me lately, I'll be back soon.

We dig paisley

First of all, a big THANK YOU to everyone for your kind words and support!!!

Did you know I have 14 blog post drafts? It's common for me to start blog posts and never finish them.

It's been veeery quiet around here lately, and I can sum up the reason for that in two words: nausea + vomiting.

I'm so very excited to be pregnant, but man, I haven't felt like myself these past few weeks. I've been confined to my bedroom and working from home busy with those two words above. I've left this bedroom a mere once since getting sick (not just my apartment, but my bedroom). What's going on in the outside world? Without the internet I'd probably be crazy right now.

So, sorry for infrequent posting. My real life is a bit queasy at the moment. To make amends, here's our official "I peed on this and it said 'baby'" picture, back before my relationship with food hit the rocks:
Just a coupla' hipsters. That mustache reminds me: Doubt opens this week! Go see Seve as Father Flynn at the Black Box Theatre and have a grand ol' time. Oh, and Happy Valentine's Day!
